5 common necklace types for men

First of all, Yes! Men do wear necklaces as accessories but they tend to be a little bit different. By different, we mean that a man wears a necklace to complement their overall outfit. Or they wear it because it has a special meaning to the owner.

Men never wear a necklace to be the centerpiece of their look like women do. Some women’s dresses are cut out in a way that leaves the neckline open therefore they need to fill that space with a necklace. Usually, the necklace becomes the focal point of their outfit.

Most men do not wear a necklace to be noticeable unless they are rappers and love the “bling-bling” shiny necklaces. But pop culture fashion is an exception.

We put together a list of five necklace types that are traditionally more masculine and are worn by men.

But before dive in, here is a tip:

NEVER WEAR YOUR NECKLACE ON TOP OF YOUR SHIRTS!

1. Chain necklaces

Chain necklaces are a classic style when it comes to men’s fashion. No ornaments, no pendants, no fanciness. A simple chain necklace will make a statement.

Depending on the material it’s made of, the length and style of the links one can create great looks. If you go with gold, silver, or white gold chains you will create a more formal look that goes well with a suit or a tuxedo.

If you want to create a more laid-back vibe you can go with a cheaper metal, such as platinum or stainless steel. The cheaper material will not diminish the style or the status of the look. It is just a different vibe.

2. Dog tags

Dog tags have their origins in the military setup. Dog tags were worn by soldiers. It is a simple ball chain necklace with two flat metal tags that contain the name of the soldier and their health information. Sometimes, it contains the bearer’s religious beliefs, as well.

However, in recent years dog tags become a fashion item. The opinion is split as some people consider them to be disrespectful towards the servicemen who served their country. The other half just wears it because it is a cool fashion item.

You can personalize the tags with your own name or engrave some message on it. But do not be too pushy or flashy about it because it may create a negative buzz.

3. Beaded necklaces

The beads give an obvious vibrant style to any male outfit. You have to choose the colors of the gemstone and you are ready to rock.

You can go with black onyx beads and pendant that will give you a serious look which can be worn with suits as well as T-shirts.

Or choose the howlite beads with white quartz and pendant to create a flashy look for an evening event.

4. Personalized Pendants

Personalized pendants are a great accessory for both men and women. These accessories are always something special and represent something more than a fashion item. It has a special meaning to the wearer. It comes in many shapes and forms. It can be a heart pendant with a message on the back or it can be a  semi-precious stone engraved with initials.

It is a great way to show off your personality or your story. These items are conversation starters and they are an item that can be worn all the time, regardless of clothes.
